Meet the people whose vision and commitment gave birth to Oasis de Paix.

Father Henri Souchon

Founder

Father Henri Souchon

Father Henri Souchon was a Mauritian priest whose life was deeply devoted to education, social inclusion and the welfare of young people. After decades of service, he remained particularly concerned about children and adolescents who had been left behind by the traditional education system.

In 2006, together with Monique Leung and a small group of volunteers, he founded Oasis de Paix in Rue Saint-Georges, Port Louis. The school began with a small group of adolescent girls and was conceived as a safe and supportive place where vulnerable young people could regain confidence, strengthen essential literacy and numeracy skills, and prepare for a better future.

Father Souchon's vision was rooted in giving young people a second chance through education, guidance and vocational preparation. That vision continued to grow and remains at the heart of the institution that today bears his name: École Père Henri Souchon – Oasis de Paix.

Monique Leung

Co-Founder

Monique Leung

Monique Leung is a Mauritian educator and co-founder of Oasis de Paix, which she established in 2006 alongside Father Henri Souchon. Her experience in education and her commitment to young people facing educational and social difficulties helped shape the philosophy and direction of the school.

From its early days, Monique Leung played an important role in developing Oasis de Paix as a supportive learning environment where students could strengthen their literacy and numeracy, develop practical skills, rebuild their confidence and receive guidance adapted to their individual needs.

Her long-standing commitment has helped carry forward the founding vision of Oasis de Paix: to give vulnerable young people meaningful opportunities to learn, grow and work toward a more independent future. She continues to play an important role in the development and mission of École Père Henri Souchon – Oasis de Paix.
